We are a unique post-secondary educational institution based in New Westminster, BC, Canada. Every day, individuals who have received education and training from our Institute - serving in Canada and around the world - make a difference. When there is an accident, a natural disaster, a crime that has been committed, or a conflict that needs resolving, justice and public safety professionals educated by us are at the frontlines of emergency response. We also contribute to a larger spectrum of safety - from prevention to response to recovery. Established in 1978 by the BC government, the Justice Institute of BC delivers justice and public safety education and training in BC, Canada and internationally. More than 29,000 students take our programs and courses annually. We are a unique institution. Our facilities include the Dr. Donald B. Rix Public Safety Simulation Building, which has state-of-the-art technology to deliver interactive scenario-based training exercises anytime, anywhere. The technology includes ExPod, an award-winning virtual simulation learning tool. • We collaborate with organizations in Canada and abroad - multiple levels of government, corporations and small business, and non-profit organizations - in developing customized education and training solutions for their employees. • We are active in conducting and supporting applied research, which ensures our curriculum is grounded in the latest findings and theory. • The Institute offers a diverse learning experience that brings together learners and faculty from different disciplines. • We provide classroom learning, online learning, and a combination of both in blended learning. • We offer a range of registration and student services. I OUR APPROACH TO CONTRACT EDUCATION AND TRAINING The Justice Institute of BC's approach to contract education and training for international organizations is client­ centered, collaborative, culturally respectful, flexible, and sustainable. We begin by listening: We conduct a thorough needs assessment to ensure we have a clear understanding of your goals and objectives. Justice Institute of BC, International Education and Professional Training 9 I ACCREDITATIONS The Justice Institute of BC maintains the following internationally-recognized accreditations: INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SCIENCES International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world's largest developer and publisher of International Standards. It is a network of the national standards institutes of 162 countries. The Justice Institute of BC is one of the few post­ secondary institutions internationally that have earned ISO 9001:2008 certification. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) has accredited the Primary Care Paramedic and Advanced Care Paramedic programs delivered by the School of Health Sciences. The British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education, Degree Quality Assessment Board has approved all degrees offered by the Justice Institute of BC. The International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) is a peer driven, self-governing system that accredits public fire service certification programs and higher education fire-related degree programs. The Justice Institute of BC is the only entity in BC accredited by IFSAC and the only degree-granting institution in Canada belonging to IFSAC's Degree Assembly. IFSAC has accredited the Institute to 36, levels of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. British Columbia Education Quality Assurance (EQA) is a designation that identifies BC public and private post-secondary institutions that have met or exceeded provincial government recognized quality assurance standards and offer consumer protection mechanisms. The Imagine Education au/in Canada brand is the product of joint effort by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) and Canadian provinces and territories through the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC). FIRE & SAFETY The Pro Board Fire Service Professional Qualifications System is an internationally recognized means of acknowledging professional achievement in the fire service and related fields. Pro Board accredits eligible organizations.
