JIBC I School ofHealth Sciences The School of Health Sciences (SOHS) has been designing, developing, and delivering effective, innovative training and education for paramedics, nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals for more than 30 years. SOHS provides training to Canadian government agencies such as the Department of National Defence and the Correctional Services of Canada, and for the past fifteen years has provided education and training to the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Military Training Institute, and the Hong Kong Ambulance Fire Service. SOHS is known as an innovator in many areas - from the use of simulation technology to the introduction of new professional programs based on the knowledge of applied research in Emergency Medical Services and best practice in patient care. Accredited by the Canadian Medical Association . Pre-requisite: Diploma in Health Sciences (EMS). Eddy Workhoven Dean, School of Health Sciences The SOHS Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) and Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) programs are the only paramedic programs in the province of British Columbia, Canada, that are accredited by the Canadian Medical Association . ACADEMIC STUDIES DIPLOMAS Diploma in Health Sciences - Emergency Medical Services (EMS) The EMS Diploma builds upon the PCP certificate and a foundation of liberal studies and health sciences. Prerequisite: EMR Program or, upon prior learning assessment 30 credits may be awarded for the PCP program. Diploma in Public Safety Administration (pending) This Diploma will fulfill a growing societal and governmental need that places more emphasis on integration of services, resources and public safety planning processes. The program will enhance the abilities of public safety professionals to manage and supervise in their chosen profession. Pre-requisite: a recognized 30 credit certificate in a public safety discipline. CERTIFICATES PROFESSIONAL STUDIES First Responder (FR) Participants acquire life-saving skills and knowledge to perform patient care to the public until the arrival of the ambulance. Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) This foundational course develops the skills needed to respond to trauma and medical emergencies. Training includes the fundamentals of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and medical terminology. CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) Participants are prepared to practice as a paramedic in a wide variety of pre-hospital care environments. Prerequisite: EMR Course. PCP/Medical Technician SOHS provides PCP training to the Canadian Forces Department of National Defence and Search and Rescue Technicians (SAR). CORPORATE & GOVERNMENT TRAINING SOHS delivers programs world-wide. The School has a distinguished history of working with national and international partners providing expertise in EMS system needs analysis, specialized program delivery, evaluation, accreditation, and faculty development. STUDIES SOHS is one of a small number of educational institutes within Canada that has the capacity to deliver world-wide education to multiple levels of pre-hospital care practitioners. Programs can be customized to meet your specific needs and upon completion of 30 credits, participants earn a specialized certificate of study.
