Abstract
This research paper examines the various challenges law enforcement may have in adopting the appropriate policing strategies in order to meet the specific challenges that the emerging generation Z face in society. Qualitative research methods were used to interpret a collection of secondary data that derived a set of four main themes that any policing agency should be aware of when implementing these strategies into practice. The practices of the Saanich police Department’s (Saanich PD) community initiatives were compared with the data provided by various researchers to determine how well the agency practices incorporated the recommendations of research when developing their strategies. To conclude this paper, recommendations were made to help police agencies develop the appropriate strategies into their communities. These pertained to incorporating partnerships amongst other agencies in the community to provide a multiple disciplinary approach and to educate and create awareness on the traits and characteristics of this generation. Once these are implemented, it may allow agencies to focus on the individual needs of each case in order to prevent youth from participating in criminal activity and make the appropriate choices to become successful adults. |
