Bettina Williams is a Program Manager in the Emergency Management Division (EMD) within the JIBC’s School of Public Safety, where she is responsible for the management, coordination, delivery and development of emergency management courses, workshops and exercises for local authorities, private organizations and government agencies.
Prior to joining the JIBC, Bettina worked in local government as an emergency program coordinator; one of the many hats she wore as executive assistant and head dispatcher for the volunteer fire department. Her experiences emphasized the importance of working collaboratively with surrounding jurisdictions (Regional Districts and First Nations), engaging with various stakeholders, and building capacity to ensure community resiliency.
Bettina holds a Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management from Royal Roads University. Her major research project "Building Community Resilience: Understanding Local Authority and Critical Infrastructure Stakeholder Relationships" was published in 2017. Bettina has various credentials in emergency management, exercise design and tourism marketing. She is also the Co-Chair of the Young Professionals Committee of the Canadian Risk and Hazard Network (CRHNet).
