Asif has taught and conducted research in Canada and the United Kingdom, covering topics in criminology, criminal justice, policing, and research methods. Since 2021, he has served as a sessional faculty member at the JIBC and held the role of Program Manager for the Law Enforcement Studies diploma and degree programs at the School of Criminal Justice & Security.
His research interests include the use of body-worn cameras by police, contemporary challenges in policing, organized crime, and the impact of experiential learning on law enforcement students. Asif and his research team secured a $360,000 grant from the College and Community Social Innovation Fund for a 2024–2027 project titled “Beyond the Classroom: Work-Integrated Learning in Vancouver Community Policing Centers and Community Impact.”
In addition to his work in academia, Asif began his law enforcement career with the Vancouver Police Department in 2023 and is now a member with the Surrey Police Service. He completed his Master’s degree in Criminology at the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), where he authored a dissertation titled "Tracking the Professional Identities of Police Recruits in British Columbia, Canada." He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement Studies from the JIBC.
